Phil Brown: I've got a selection headache for Saturday's game

3 September 2015

Boss says Cian Bolger is back in full contention, but Ted Smith and Myles Weston will miss out.

Southend United manager Phil Brown admits he has something of a selection headache for Saturday’s game against Peterborough United in Sky Bet League 1.

The boss confirms that Cian Bolger is back in contention, whilst Adam Thompson still has a ‘couple of weeks’ to go in terms of full contact training.

And apart from Myles Weston and Ted Smith – who are on international duty – and Thompson, Brown’s squad are fighting fit and raring to go.

“We’ve got Cian Bolger back which is phenomenal,” Brown began.

“Cian’s in full contact training today, which is fantastic.

Fingers crossed Adam Thompson will be back in full contact in a couple of weeks, Glen Rea is available as well and will travel to Andorra to play for Ireland under-21s straight after the game.

“He had a quiet debut alongside Adam Barrett. Everyone’s pretty much available, including Kevan Hurst.

“Only Myles Weston and Ted Smith are unavailable due to international duty. Myles will be playing for Antigua and Ted will be playing for England against Croatia.

“I saw the under-21s and it was fantastic to see Jason Williams score a hat-trick. It was a strong Gillingham side he was up against. Jason in particular has put a marker down.”

Peterborough are situated in 18th place in the table, but Brown isn’t paying too much attention on the positions and is keen for the Blues to go on a winning streak sooner rather than later.

“It’s been a difficult start in terms of fixtures for Peterborough because they’ve come up against some very tough sides.

“A lot of teams in this division can go on a run. Hopefully on Saturday we can get out noses in front and that can be us. We have belief to go on a run.”
