Robbo pleased with workout against the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.
Southend United U21s manager Dave Robertson admitted he was ‘really pleased’ with the performance of his players as the Blues earned a draw at Luton Town.
The game ended 1-1, with Jason Williams opening the scoring for the Blues at Kenilworth Road before former Charlton Athletic and MK Dons player Danny Green levelled for the Hatters after the break with a fine free kick.
And Robertson said the game was hugely beneficial, especially for the younger lads in the team.
“I was really pleased with the performance,” Robbo said.
“We knew they would be strong with the majority of them being first team players.
“In terms of the players, it tells a story that we’re disappointed not to win. It was a real good team goal, starting from a throw, playing through midfield before Jordan Williams crossed to Jason with a goal.”
And there was pleasing news for first team boss Phil Brown as well, with the likes of Adam Thompson and Jack Payne playing in the match.
“Tommo [Thompson] and Jack got minutes, as did Ted Smith. The younger lads performed really well and the young lads will have massively benefitted from playing against some experienced professionals.
“That’s the level they’re at now, and hopefully we’ll see them all push on."
