Ryan Leonard: Bieber fever won't change me!

26 November 2015

Lenny sees funny side following Twitter meltdown.

Southend United’s Ryan Leonard admits Justin Bieber fever won’t effect his game as the Blues midfielder became a ‘global phenomenon’ overnight, all thanks to a single tweet!

Much has been said in the matchday programme against Blackpool and in the local papers regarding Leonard’s unique and slightly strange celebration following his goal against Sheffield United in Sky Bet League 1.

Since then, the national media have got hold of the story, and after NME put a tweet out regarding the situation, popstar Bieber himself responded with a comment.

And Leonard says the fame won’t change him!

“It’s gone a bit mad to be honest after starting off with a celebration,” the 23-year-old said.

“My sister’s gone mad! She’s 19 and is a massive Justin Bieber fan. My dad’s not too bothered about it though!

“All the boys are excited and we want him to come down for a drink with us in Essex. It’s a nice story for the club and me and has given us some exposure.

“The tweet that he sent was nice, and my phone was going crazy after he put it out there.”

Since then, Leonard’s even got himself involved on Twitter, setting up an account under the username @lendog18.

“I had to get on Twitter, really! My sister and a few others have asked me to get on there for a little while.

“Since Mr. Bieber called me out I suppose I had to get myself started on there and I’m starting to find my feet on there now.”

So, what’s the next celebration for the midfielder?

“We have something lined up for the next goal! I’m not sure whether Adam Barrett will join in with it but I’m not saying any more about it. It’s all under wraps and only certain players know the plan!

“However, whether I score or not, in all seriousness it’s the result that matters and that’s all that I care about!”
