Boss wants to end week by taking tally to nine points in seven days!.
Southend United manager Phil Brown is aiming for the ‘perfect week’ ahead of the clash with Wigan Athletic at Roots Hall on Saturday.
Brown’s boys have won two consecutive games now following important victories over Blackpool last Saturday and up at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday.
“We’d have probably taken seven points from the start of the week but now we have six points, we want more than the seven!” Brown said with a smile.
“Three or four years ago Wigan were a Premier League club, which is remarkable. They’re a big club and I always looked at the game and thought it’d be a good test.
“We put on a good performance on Tuesday night and Burton Albion turned Wigan over on the same evening.
“I don’t know how Wigan will be thinking but our players are bouncing after Tuesday’s performance and result.
“If we can get nine points in the space of a week then that will be a perfect sequence of results for us.”
But despite the positive performances in the league, Brown has ruled out one of Tuesday night’s goalscorers but has food for thought in his team selection against the Latics, with the likes of Michael Timlin expected to be back in contention.
“David Worrall is definitely out and there are certainly some tired legs in the legs of the squad. Wozza [Worrall] won’t be available due to the head injury picked up at Oldham.
“Michael Timlin could be back and Joe Pigott has put his name forward, as has Luke Prosser. We have a number of options and headaches to choose from on Saturday.”
