The boss thrilled to get back to winning ways in Sky Bet League 1.
Southend United boss Phil Brown was pleased with his side’s resilience as his side earned a hard fought victory over Blackpool at Roots Hall.
Adam Thompson’s goal late in the second half earned the points for the Blues in a tight clash at a chilly Roots Hall.
But Brown was delighted to see his side earn another gritty win and push up the table.
“If you sum the game up then I think you’d say it was a grind and the weather conditions weren’t conducive to good football,” the boss said.
“I was delighted to come in level, especially after the clearance off the line from a corner.
“We came out in the second half and started to get ahead of steam and kept going, kept knocking on the door and eventually it opened.
“Blackpool probably came to get a clean sheet and a point because it wasn’t pretty.”
And after seven months out of action, Brown was thrilled for Thompson to not just get on the scoresheet and keep a clean sheet, but to bag his first in Southend colours.
“It was a heroic goal from Tommo who stepped out to start the move and I’m delighted for him,” Brown beamed after the game.
“He’s been working hard to improve on and off the field and it’s been a long six months for him.
“He and the team had the resilience to get us back on track with a win in the league.”
