The boss reflects on emphatic win against the Latics in Sky Bet League 1.
Southend United manager Phil Brown was delighted to see his side come away from Boundary Park with the three points following a great performance against Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League 1.
Goals from David Mooney, Jack Payne, David Worrall, Will Atkinson and Luke Prosser sealed the emphatic win for the Blues, who scored five for the first time under Brown.
“We put Luke Prosser on to shore the game up at 4-2 and even he managed to get on the scoresheet as well,” Brown said after a pulsating game in difficult conditions in Greater Manchester.
“There was a lot to talk about in the game and I'm sure it was entertaining for the supporters and the reporters here.
“We went in their face and put pressure on their defenders and made them make mistake. We did a really professional job, particularly in the first half, before the second half turned into an end-to-end game.
“It's very pleasing to get five different goalscorers. The front four have a license to get goals and create things. Joe Pigott's being kept on the sidelines and you have to take your hat off to the likes of David Mooney and Jack Payne.
“I thought we looked quite solid at 3-0. When we lost David Worrall we had to shuffle the pack by putting Glen Rea in there, which means we lost Dave's attacking threat.”
And Brown signed off his post-match thoughts by praising the near 200 Blues fans who made the long trip to Boundary Park for the match.
“I'm delighted for the supporters who made the long journey up here tonight and they all head back happy! Hopefully we can do similar against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.”
