Adam Thompson: It felt unbelievable to be playing for the Blues again

12 November 2015

Tommo pleased to return to the team after appearance against Bristol Rovers.

Southend United defender Adam Thompson said it felt ‘unbelievable’ after marking his return to the team after seven months out with a shoulder injury.

The defender played the full 90 minutes alongside Adam Barrett, after bring out of action since the start of April, and kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers in the JPT.

“It was unbelievable!” Tommo said enthusiastically after the game.

“The buzz at the start of the game and being back out there felt great.

“We haven’t been losing but the games we’ve drawn have felt like defeats but hopefully we can carry this on to Saturday.

“I’ve done Ben Clarkson’s head in over the last few months and I’m grateful to him and the gaffer for putting the faith in me against Bristol Rovers.

“Now we have the win against Bristol we can push on at Sheffield United.

“The gaffer wanted that clean sheet mentality back and we got the clean sheet against a team who had the second best away record in England I think.”

And Thompson wants to cement his place in the team, with a trip to Sheffield United on the horizon on Saturday afternoon.

“I want to keep my place and everyone wants to keep the shirt. The gaffer will do what he thinks best but I hope to have done enough to put myself in his mind for the Sheffield United game.”
