Defender thrilled to earn win against Blackpool at Roots Hall.
Southend United defender Adam Thompson admitted he was delighted to contribute to a big win for the Blues against Blackpool on Saturday.
Thompson scored the winner in the 1-0 win and was also part of a defence that kept a clean sheet against the Tangerines.
“The conditions today weren’t the best and it’s a great result for us. With the wind it was so hard to judge the ball and it’s taken a defender to pop up with a goal!” Thompson said.
“It was a great ball in from Wozza and Moons was up there so I thought I’d give him a bit of help!
“I got a nose bleed going up there, nearly falling over but it’s a big confidence boost for me.”
And Thompson – who, after seven months out, has started the last three games – insists the Blues must take the win forward to Oldham Athletic on Tuesday evening.
“It’s the start of a big week for us and I was delighted to get the goal as well that helped us win the game,” the 23-year-old said after the game.
“The clean sheet was massive and even 0-0 would have been a good result. The lads are all buzzing in there and we want to take it into Tuesday now at Oldham."
