Ryan Leonard: My Dad won't be the only on bragging about Wembley win now!

25 May 2015

Now Ryan has a Wembley winner medal to add to his family's collection!

Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard added another Wembley win to his family's collection as he – and Blues – earned promotion to Sky Bet League One.

His father David Leonard won the FA Vase as manager of Truro City back in 2007 and Leonard jnr. now has something to show for his efforts at the national stadium!

“It’s four out of four for us now. He won at the old Wembley twice and I can show him my medal when I see him,” Ryan said in the changing room at Wembley after the game.

“There’s not too many words you can use for Wembley. It’s a great finish from Pigs [Joe Pigott] and the character showed again. Everyone was so together and Pigs has come off the bench to get the goal.

“Wycombe will be devastated but they have good players and manager and I’m sure they’ll bounce back next season.

“You could hear our supporters above the Wycombe fans and they’ve been a credit. We’ll celebrate for a little while yet and look forward to League One next season.

And the 23-year-old is thrilled to have finally put the play-off heartache of last year fully out of his mind.

“We’ve had a lot of heartache both as a team and me personally this season. We were all so low after the play-off defeat to Burton Albion last season but it's all perfect now. It's the perfect ending.”
