Striker delighted to sign off his loan spell in style at Wembley.
He was one of the heroes for Blues at Wembley Stadium, but the over-riding feeling for on loan Southend striker Joe Pigott was 'relief'.
With 21 seconds of extra time remaining, Pigott lashed home from just inside the box to cause pandemonium amongst the 20,000 travelling Blues fans.
“It's a massive relief to score with 20 seconds to go. It's a great moment for me and for the fans, who seemed to enjoy it as well!!
“To score such an important goal is a fantastic feeling, and to sign off my loan spell, there's no better way to do it than winning promotion at Wembley.”
The striker from Charlton Athletic hadn't scored for Southend since his opener against Dagenham & Redbridge in mid-March, but came up trumps on the greatest stage to take the game to extra time.
Quite a way to sign off for the season for the 21-year-old frontman!
“I'd of course liked to have scored more goals during my spell here but I feel I've contributed to the team and have really enjoyed it at Southend United,” Pigs concluded.
