David Worrall: I'm in Greece and the promotion with Blues will make it a great summer!

27 May 2015

Winger Worrall delighted to sign off first campaign with Blues in style, as he speaks from Greece!

We managed to catch up with Southend United winger David Worrall, whilst the midfielder was chilling on a sun bed in Greece!

The 24-year-old has been a key figure in his first season in Essex, weighing in with his fair share of goals and assists during an impressive maiden campaign at Roots Hall.

And the former Bury and Rotherham United flanker was delighted to earn the promotion, and take memories away from the superb day at Wembley Stadium.

“It's finally sunk in and it's a massive achievement for me. I think it's my third promotion in seven years and it's great memories to take away and another achievement for my CV,” he says.

“I got brought off and was watching and thinking I could see us having a chance. We got on top as extra time went on, scored, and then I knew we'd go on and win on penalties.

“I had my girlfriend and my best mate Lee with me. I couldn't celebrate too much as I had to get back on north to pack for the holiday – that was the reason I wasn't on the open top bus, but after watching the video, it looked fantastic and great to see all the fans out to join in with the celebrations!”

Looking back on the campaign, one fixture in particular stands out to the wide man – adding he was frustrated with the result and – of course – not managing to fit in another break!

“At the time it was hugely disappointing to lose at Morecambe – that's the one in particular I remember. We've picked ourselves up to get the promotion in the end! The only disappointment in not achieving automatic promotion was that I couldn't have another holiday or two earlier!

“But winning at Wembley; it's the best way to go up and makes all the hard work we've put in worth it. It's an unbelievable feeling to get promoted. One of the reasons I joined Southend was to win promotion and it feels great to have done it!

“I'm in Greece now to recharge the batteries and get ready for next season!”
