Even game ends in stalemate at Roots Hall.
It was to be another frustrating afternoon for Southend United, as the Blues drew 0-0 with Cambridge United at Roots Hall.
It was probably a fair result, in an even match throughout, where both teams cancelled each other out.
Phil Brown named an unchanged lineup for the home test against Richard Money's U's, with the boss looking for a reaction from his team following the defeat at Burton Albion on Wednesday evening.
The game began quietly from both sides, with the best chance falling to winger David Worrall, who saw his strike from long range fly into the grateful gloves of Cambridge 'keeper Chris Dunn after just 20 minutes.
Up the other end, Ryan Donaldson saw his effort trickle wide from the edge of the box, in a tepid opening half an hour at Roots Hall, with both sides cancelling each other out.
After the 30-minute mark, Brown was forced into a change, with Will Atkinson coming on for Kevan Hurst, who limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury.
Soon after and a short corner was eventually whipped in by Donaldson, and although it reached for Southend man Matt Harrold at the back post, the striker saw his effort on the stretch fly just over the bar.
Just before the break, a well worked move ended with White's cross finding Worrall, but his volley was tame and it was comfortable for Dunn.
Moments after half time, and an inviting ball in from the left by Worrall just evaded the advancing Corr at the back post.
For Cambridge, Harrold's header from a right-wing cross worked Bentley in the Southend goal.
After the hour, John White was urged to shoot when a headed clearance fell for him on the edge of the box.
On 68 minutes, there was concern all round, when Luke Prosser took a powerful Donaldson free kick in the face. The Blues defender hit the floor and needed medical assistance and a stretcher, before being replaced by Jerome Binnom-Williams.
Moments later and the U's had a chance, with Elliott's curling effort finishing on the roof of the net, rather than nestling in the top corner.
With 12 minutes remaining, Worrall's pass found Will Atkinson, but his effort on goal was saved comfortably by Dunn.
And despite six minutes of added time following Prosser's injury, the game ended in stalemate.
