Boss pleased with positive performance and result at Canvey's Park Lane.
Southend United manager Phil Brown was pleased with a 'professional display' from his side following the 4-0 win at Canvey Island on Wednesday evening.
A Jason Williams brace, and strikes from Jack Bridge and Jack Payne sealed the a comfortable win for the Blues, and Brown was happy to see the likes of Cian Bolger and Luke Prosser play the whole game.
“You can only beat what's in front of you,” Brown reflected.
:We set this pre-season schedule for players to get 90 minutes under their belt.
“It was a good attitude and a good tempo. It was a professional display from the players, taking a few 'weary legs' off after a triple training session yesterday.”
And Brown is hopeful that good news is on the way regarding talks with Gary Deegan, whilst admitting that he will be adding to his squad before the start of the season.
“There was a small incident involving Gary Deegan in the first half, and it was nice to see Deegs has his aggression back, and hopefully we'll have a deal done with him sooner rather than later.
“We're still trying to bolster the team. We've got 16 or 17 outfield players and the squad isn't big enough.”
Next up is a trip to League 2 Dagenha & Redbridge on Saturday, with Brown promising another strong team for the trip to east London.
“We had eight or nine on the bench today and they'll probably play at Dagenham. Ben Coker will probably play the full 90 at Dagenham, but I won't dilute the game by flooding the match with trialists. If first team players cane get full 90s under their belt then it will be great.”
