Michael Timlin: I was always keen to stay a Blue

2 July 2015

Midfielder thrilled to extend his Roots Hall stay.

Southend United midfielder Michael Timlin was delighted to commit his future to the Club and can't wait to begin what he believes will be an exciting season.

The 30-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the option of a third and is likely to be a key player in the third tier for the Blues next season.

“I'm really happy to get the deal sorted and done and dusted,” Timlin said on Thurday after completing the deal.

“I'm looking forward to next season with the exciting signings the gaffer wants to make to add to an already strong squad.

“I was fortunate to have the most interest I've ever had. The clubs interested in me got into double figures but I said to my agent to let me enjoy my break and to get things done when I returned. I had a great two weeks off then I sat down with my agent.”

And the former Swindon Town man says Southend was at the top of his list when it came to deciding where his future lay.

“I always was adamant I wanted to know what the situation with Southend first. I feel I've had a really good career here and the fans have taken to me. I'm working really well with Phil Brown – he seems to bring out the best in me.

“We needed to get promoted and we stepped up to the plate. With the additions the manager wants to bring in, I think we can be a real force in League 1 next season.”
