Match Report: Great Wakering Rovers 0-1 Southend United

16 July 2015

Blues begin pre-season schedule with win at Wakering.

A second half penalty from winger Brandon Scott proved the difference in an evenly contested pre-season fridnly at Great Wakering Rovers on Wednesday evening.

Blues ran out 1-0 winners in the end, with Scott tucking home, under tgoalkeeper Adam Seal following a handball in the Wakering box.

The hosts had chances themselves, and in the early stages, Adam Cleaver headed wide after a cross from the right.

Scott forced Seal into a good stop moments later, whilst Jordan Williams was on hand to head a powerful effort off the line, following a good Wakering set piece routine.

Freddie Gard tried his luck just before half time, but we got to the break with chances at a premium.

However, after the interval, the game livened up.

Blues goalkeeper Josh Bexon was on hand to push a strike away for a corner before then tipping over a header from a Wakering defender.

And soon after, Blues got their match-winning moment, when Scott saw his effort blocked with a hand, he calmly stepped up to score from the spot.

Both sides had half-chances to add to the scoreline, but a succession of substitutes for both teams meant the game failed to flow in the latter stages.

Nevertheless, Blues begin pre-season with a win, with a trip to Braintree Town next up on Friday.

Blues starting XI: Bexon; Jordan Williams, Matsuzaka, Coutts, Adeyeye; Scott, Gard, Bridge (c), Cotton, Keating; Jason Williams
