Defender delighted with good performance against Charlton Athletic.
Southend United defender Luke Prosser was pleased with a strong display as the Blues defeated Championship Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening.
Goals from new signings Anthony Wordsworth and David Mooney sealed the 2-1 home victory for Phil Brown's men against the Addicks, sandwiching Michail Kennedy's equaliser for the Londoners.
"It was a very pleasing performance and I think we played them off the park for long spells," Luke said after the game.
"It was a very strong performance from us, although it was disappointing to concede the goal. It was a sloppy goal but we came out for the second half and got back on it.
"Straight away, from the first whistle, we looked really good. We knew we had to step up [after the defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge]."
And despite pre-season coming towards the end, Prosser says training and matches played have been just as 'intense'.
"It's always intense, training's been as hard as ever in terms of the tempo, pressing, and obviously it's the business end now. Everyone wants to be in the team for that first game of the season at Fleetwood.
"We defended well and even when they put the pressure on us I think we handled it very well. The clean sheets will come though - just like they did last season."
