Striker agrees two-year deal with the Blues.
Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of striker David Mooney on a free transfer after the frontman passed a medical at Boots & Laces Training Ground this morning.
The Irishman has signed a two-year deal with the Blues, and follows up the signing of Michael Timlin, who agreed a new deal earlier today.
Mooney has spent the last four years with Leyton Orient in League 1, appearing over 150 times for the O's and scoring more than 50 times for the east Londoners – including nine goals last season and 21 the previous campaign when Orient reached the play-off Final in the division.
The 30-year-old started out in his homeland with Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Cork City before joining Reading in 2008. He failed to make an appearance for the Royals but gained valuable experience on loan at Stockport County, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United before joining Orient in 2011.
The Dubliner is a former Republic of Ireland under-23 striker.
Check back on the official website later today for the full interview with David on joining the Blues and his hopes for the season.
