Midfielder pens a two-year deal with the Blues.
Southend United are delighted to announce that midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has signed a two-year deal to become a Blue.
The midfielder – who can play on the left side, central midfield or in the 'number 10 position' – put pen to paper on the contract at Roots Hall this morning after passing a medical examination.
The midfielder was last at Ipswich Town, but on his release from the Tractor Boys, Phil Brown moved swiftly to snap up the 26-year-old.
Anthony began his career with our Essex neighbours Colchester United, and after coming through the youth ranks at the Club, went on to appear over 150 times for the U's – playing in the same team as current Blues John White and Ben Coker.
Ipswich Town won the race for the playmaker in January 2013; taking him to Portman Road for an undisclosed fee.
In and out of the side during his two years with the Tractor Boys, Wordsworth played for Rotherham United on loan last season before representing Crawley Town for the second half of the campaign in League 1, again on loan, scoring four times in 18 games and gaining plenty of assists.
Check back on the official website later today for an interview with Anthony. There will be YouTube and Blues Player videos of the midfielder discussing his move to Roots Hall as well.
What do you make of our new signing?
