The news that all Blues fans want to hear - Barrett is back!
Southend United are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Adam Barrett on a permanent deal until the end of the season.
Local lad Barrett played over 250 times for the Blues between 2004 and 2010 before joining Crystal Palace, and was a key figure in Southend's rise to the Championship during his first stint at Roots Hall.
The 35-year-old will bring a wealth of experience to the Blues squad having previously played for the likes of Leyton Orient, Mansfield Town, Bristol Rovers and Bournemouth in his career, and the powerful defender also captained Gillingham to the Sky Bet League Two title in 2013.
And Phil Brown was delighted to have captured the centre back on a deal until the end of the season following his departure from Gillingham.
“He's a real leader and a fans' favourite during his time at the club previously,” Phil said.
“He's determined, knows the division very well and has a determination and desire to do well here and help us achieve our goals.”
