Ellis Brown and Barry Corr net braces against Canvey in 7-0 rout.
A strong Southend United team defeated Canvey Island in a midweek friendly between the two sides.
Blues included the likes of Barry Corr, Cian Bolger, Adam Barrett, Gary Deegan and Luke Prosser in their line up, and ran out 7-0 winners, with both Ellis Brown and Barry Corr netting twice each in the rout.
Blues took the lead inside the opening five minutes, with Shaq Coulthirst putting Blues in front after reacting to a mistake from Canvey goalkeeper. Tim Brown.
It was 2-0 less than ten minutes later, after young forward Ellis Brown pounced to extend Blues lead following good work by the lively Coulthirst.
And on the half an hour mark, Southend had a great chance to add a third, but Brown did well to deny Coulthirst from the penalty spot following a foul in the area.
With half time approaching, Phil Brown's side did get a third, with Corr slotting home after a great cross from Kevan Hurst.
Three minutes later and Southend had their fourth, thanks to Ellis Brown again, firing home after his initial effort was stopped on the line by Canvey's Josh Banton – who, of course, is on loan from the Blues.
Five minutes after the break, Hurst produced a moment of magic to curl a free kick into the back of the net from 20 yards, before Corr slotted home a penalty soon after.
On 70 minutes, Luke Prosser got his name on the scoresheet with a powerful header to make it 7-0 to Southend following a cross from the left.
