Ben Coker: We're going to Shrewsbury to end their unbeaten home record

5 February 2015

Left back says the team are confident following one defeat in 14 league games.

Southend United left back Ben Coker says Blues will be going to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday aiming to put an end to their unbeaten home record in Sky Bet League Two.

Premier League leaders Chelsea are the only team to have come away from Greenhous Meadow with victory, and Coker insists Blues will be heading to Shropshire with the intent on bringing the points back to Essex.

“It's a massive test for us and we're all looking forward to the game,” the 25-year-old said.

“We're a force on the road and they're a force at home. We're going to give it a real go and we're looking for the three points and not just the draw.

“It's a really strong squad this year and the manager has a number of choices for places in the team, which is a good thing, as everyone raises their game to stay in the team.

“We're a little bit more open playing 4-4-2, but overall we've defended well over the last few weeks.”

Coker was rewarded for his good form following his return from injury, with a nomination for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month Award for January.

And the defender is delighted to get the recognition but has praised the whole team, following one defeat in the last 14 games in the league.

“We've done well over the last month – as the whole team have done,” a modest Coker said.

“It's nice to get a bit of recognition, which full backs don't normally get that. It's nice to get seen and it doesn't come round very often.

“You have to get forward and help the team out further up the field. It was frustrating for me to miss the majority of the first half. Hopefully I can stay injury-free until the end of the season now.”
