Phil Brown looks to bounce back from midweek defeat

Phil Brown looks forward to the trip up north to Bradford City in Sky Bet League 1.

“After the Millwall game it was quite simply bringing them in the following day and going through some of the problems we had. I’ve analysed both games against Millwall, the one in September and the one the other night.

“The big difference was the character in the players, in September we had a spine in our team and that’s where we need to get back to when going to Valley Parade in just short of twenty thousand fans on your back

“One of my first games at Southend United was a 2-2 draw at Valley Parade when we had the strike force of Assombalonga, Tomlin and Reeves and they most definitely turned it on for us up there

“I’ve got to make sure that we have a strong enough character and spine on Saturday against a very strong Bradford team, you look in the three league performances before the JPT defeat and the players that have been called upon because of injuries etc. have been outstanding

“Especially Will Atkinson playing out of position, Hurst coming back from injury and Jack Payne stepping up to the plate as well

“I’ve got to pick a team that is clever enough to cause Bradford problems but also strong enough to deal with what the crowd are going to throw at you as well as the 11 players on the pitch

With a number of players knocking on the door coming back from injury, Phil certainly has a selection headache.

“Noel Hunt has been in out in out but unfortunately out most of the time, long term injuries are a nightmare and some of these players have got injuries you can’t even describe

“I’ve got a job on my hands to say the least on picking a team that is good and strong enough to get the three points at Bradford and hopefully I’ll be able to do so.”
