Irish winger joins on three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee.
Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of winger Stephen McLaughlin on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee from Nottingham Forest.
The Irishman spent a past of last season on loan at the Blues, scoring in the play-off semi-final against Stevenage at Roots Hall before playing in the Final at Wembley Stadium.
The 25-year-old has signed a three-year-contract with Southend, which will run until the summer of 2018.
Born in Donegal, McLaughlin started out in his homeland with Clonmany Shamrocks before moving on to Finn Harps and then Derry City.
He impressed in his two years with Derry, and earned a move to Forest in 2013, going on to spent two years with the Reds.
During his time with the Championship side he went out on loan to Bristol City and Notts County before playing nine times for Southend last season after joining in January.
