Defender returns to Roots Hall on a one month loan deal.
Southend United are pleased to announce the signing of defender Luke O’Neill from Championship side Burnley.
O’Neill joins on a one month loan deal, and will offer even more competition for places at full back.
The 24-year-old previously spent time at Roots Hall before, back in January 2014 and appeared once – in our 3-0 home victory against Chesterfield – before picking up an injury and returning to Burnley.
Luke played for both Scunthorpe United and Leyton Orient on loan in League 1 last season, and will bring more experience of the division to the Blues squad.
A graduate of the Leicester City youth system, O’Neill played for Tranmere Rovers and Kettering Town before a season at Mansfield Town persuaded Burnley to sign the Slough-born defender in the summer of 2012.
Luke is eligible to play today against Swindon Town, and the final game of his initial loan deal will be away to Millwall on Saturday 19th September.
Luke has been allocated squad number 24.
