Midfielder pleased to commit future to the Blues.
Southend United midfielder Gary Deegan admits he is delighted' to put pen to paper on a new deal at the Club.
The Irishman has signed an initial one-year deal with the option of a second season, just four days before the start of the campaign at Fleetwood Town.
“I'm really happy to get it over the line. I always wanted to stay here and the gaffer has echoed that back to me.
“It's important to be performing and playing in pre-season, which will set us up for a big year.
“We have brought in some good additions, which brings a bit of variety and a bit of chopping and changing. We're not looking to stay up, we just want to push on now.”
And Deegan is pleased to commit longer term with the Blues after agreeing a couple of short-term deals at Southend throughout last season.
“I don't think the gaffer really knew me, which was why I was handed short-term deals throughout last season, which is fair enough.
“I'm feeling good and looking forward to the new season. Both sides will be buzzing and you want to get of to a good start and get that first win as soon as possible. We know Fleetwood will be a tough test, and I'm sure they'll be saying the same about playing us.”
