Former Stag Atkinson wants Blues to replicate the victory at the One Call Stadium
Southend United midfielder Will Atkinson wants Blues to grab the opportunity over the Easter period, with two games coming in quick succession.
Blues head north to Hartlepool United on Monday, but before that, take on Mansfield Town at Roots Hall, and Atkinson – a former Mansfield loanee – wants a similar outcome to the game at the One Call Stadium back in November.
Blues won 2-1 that day, and Atkinson believes the side is confident of picking up the three points against the Stags.
“With the two games over a short period of time, it gives you a good chance to put six points on the board quickly,” Will said.
“We still believe in getting automatic promotion. It's a bigger gap than we would like, of course. We go out with the intention to win every game we play. There's still plenty of points to play for between now and the end of the season.
“We know we have to play well to win games of football. We got a good result at their place and we'll aim to replicate that result at Roots Hall.
“Teams come here to frustrate us and they do a job on us. We have to find a way to combat that.”
Still to find the back of the net for Blues this season, Will insists the fans will see a goal glut from him for the remainder of the season.
“We're a good group here at Southend. I haven't been in the best of form, but I have plenty to offer still. I haven't scored yet this season, but I've been saving them up for the last eight games of the season!”
