Dave Penney: Adam Thompson likely to be out for the season

Assistant boss confirms defender is having surgery today on dislocated shoulder.

Southend United assistant manager Dave Penney has today announced that Adam Thompson has been ruled out for the season following a disclocated shoulder.

The defender had to come off early in the first half of the win against Mansfield Town on Bank Holiday Monday, and Penney’s confirmed Thompson’s injury was a bad one.

“He’s going under the knife today,” Dave said.

“It’s a sore one for Tommo [Thompson] and he’ll be ruled out for a while now, which is a shame for him.

“He’s been carrying a shoulder injury on the right side, but this time it’s on his left, so that will probably rule him out for the rest of the season.”
