Cian wants to keep place in side following terrific form for Blues.
Southend United defender Cian Bolger was delighted to bag his first goal of the season – but admits scoring goals is just a 'bonus' – as Blues continue to push on in a bid for automatic promotion.
In and our of the side since his permanent summer arrival from Bolton Wanderers, Bolger has played in the last four games alongside Adam Barrett at the heart of the Southend defence, and has been part of four consecutive wins – and clean sheets.
“I'm delighted to be back in the team after what has been a frustrating last few months, in all honesty,” the 23-year-old said on Thursday.
“It's great playing alongside Adam Barrett. He's experienced and a real fans' favourite so it's also a great experience for me to be playing next to him at the back.
“The Gaffer's big on clean sheets and we know if we keep them then we have a good chance of winning games, so hopefully that will continue for us.”
“I was glad to get on the goalscoring but the main thing for me is the clean sheets. The goals are always a bonus."
And Bolger wants to continue in the Blues lineup for the final four games of the regular season, which begins at Exeter City on Saturday.
“Everyone goes through highs and lows in football and like I've said in the past, a lot of it was my own fault with getting sent off and things like that. I've held my hands up for that and hopefully I can keep my place for the final games.
“Whoever had come in has done their job and it's only fair that they keep their place.
“We can only worry about ourselves. We'll see what happens at the end of the season and with a bit of luck we can creep in there. We need to focus on ourselves and what we can do. We're confident and there's still belief in the dressing room that we can do it.”
