Reaction: Thompson happy at 'scrappy win' for Blues over Shrewsbury Town

27 September 2014

Adam Thompson pleased with third clean sheet in four games

After clean sheets against Portsmouth and Cheltenham Town, Blues conceded twice against York City last week but are back to their old ways after keeping Shrewsbury Town at bay with a 1-0 win.

“It's a massive win. We had a great week last week and it was key having that rest during mid-week. However, we had to make sure we kept up the momentum and we have done today.

“A clean sheet was our aim. We had two before York City last week and we were delighted with that. We knew if we kept a clean sheet we were capable of getting a goal at the other end and Shaq popped up early doors with what proved to be the winning goal.

“It was a great time to score and showed again – like we did at York – we start bright. It was a long old time to hold onto it and defend it against a side that is a very good team.

And Thompson was happy at a different sort of win for Blues, admitting – like his manager did – that it wasn't the team's best performance.

“We didn't play the best but we scrapped out the win. The fans saw it and there are times when, for one reason or another, we just don't get our mojo.

“There's an understanding at the back five and we click so well. It's going really well and we're very pleased. The Gaffer has a good squad and although it's taken a few games to gel, we're on the same wavelength now.”
