Match Preview: Cheltenham Town vs. Southend United

16 September 2014

We look ahead to tonight's test at Cheltenham Town.

The Lowdown

Southend United head west to Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening, looking to continue their good form following a victory over Portsmouth on Saturday. Blues lost their last away League Two match at Plymouth Argyle at the end of August and have beat Accrington Stanley and drew with Carlisle United in other trips on the road this season.

Cheltenham have enjoyed a good start to the campaign but did suffer defeat to Luton Town on Saturday following a run of four wins from their opening six matches in League Two, earning impressive victories at Bury and Tranmere Rovers.

The Robins are undefeated at home in the league this season having beaten Accrington Stanley and Hartlepool United but  drew with Carlisle United.

The Officials

Referee: James Linnington
Assistants: Andy Hendley and Paul Hobday
Fourth Official: Christopher Husband

The Inside View:

Phil Brown: “They’re a good side who have started very well so far this season. They have good players who are capable of scoring goals. Both Terry Gornell and John Marquis were strikers we’ve mentioned in the last 18 months and they will be a threat. I like the way Mark Yates sets his sides up – they’re very strong.”

Mark Yates: “"Southend are a good side with good players and managed by Phil Brown so they will know the time of day. It will be a tough game without a shadow of a doubt but every game in this division is and you cannot target teams because it doesn't work like that in this league.”
