A preview ahead of Southend United's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against AFC Wimbledon...
The Lowdown
Southend United travel to AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night, looking to repeat their success of two years ago in this competition.
Blues reached the final that season, but were knocked out in the second round last year, by Dagenham & Redbridge at Roots Hall.
AFC Wimbledon beat Blues 1-0 two weeks ago in League 2, with George Francomb scoring the only goal of the game.
Blues News
Adam Thompson is the only injury doubt for the game, while Cian Bolger will miss the game as he serves his one game suspension for his red card at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
The Inside View
Phil Brown: “We want to do well in the cup. The club had success in it two years ago and we’d like the same again. It’s an opportunity for us to put things right after what has been a difficult couple of away trips.”
Simon Bassey: “It gives us a chance to introduce some of the younger players into the squad. It’s a competition that we would like to do well in. Players will get the chance to stake their claim for Saturday.”
