A look ahead to tonight's Sky Bet League Two game at Rodney Parade as Blues take on Newport County
The Exiles have started the season well and take on the Blues after defeating our local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, with a late Chris Zebroski goal winning the game for Justin Edinburgh’s side.
After three consecutive defeats in the league at the start of the season, Newport got themselves up and running with a 1-0 away win at Justin Edinburgh’s former side Portsmouth at the end of August.
In good form at the moment, County – currently sitting in ninth place in the division – have won three times from their last five game in all competitions.
Referee: Keith Hill
Assistant Referees: Brian Durie and Paul Hobday
Fourth Official: Derek Eaton
The Inside View
Phil Brown: “We can’t allow Newport to dictate and bully us. They are a physical side and I think they’ll have pretty much everyone at six foot or above. It’s going to be very tough. They’ll play their tactic well.”
Justin Edinburgh: “The league is tight from top to bottom and Southend are a good side. They’ve been doing well of late so they’ll give us a tough game.”
The Previous Meetings:
October 2013: Newport County 3-1 Newport County
January 2014: Southend United 0-0 Newport County
The Overall Record:
Southend United wins – 0; Draws – 1; Newport County wins - 1
