The boss delighted with a solid team performance against Hartlepool United.
Southend United manager Phil Brown was delighted with the performance of his team as Blues made it two conseuctive victories in Sky Bet League Two following a 1-0 win over Hartlepool United at Roots Hall.
“We need to focus on one thing and one thing only now, and that's taking each game as it comes,” the boss reflected.
“The scoreline probably flatters Hartlepool a little bit. We were pretty comfortable to be honest and apart from the two shots they had after we scored, we probably could have got a couple more.
“1-0 always puts you in a certain predicament but I thought the players were relaxed. Our front four will cause problems in this division.”
On the goal – a superb finish from David Worrall – Brown was quick to reserve praise for Jack Payne and insists the Blues' goalscorer must push on now following a fine run of form.
“David Worrall got the goal but Jack Payne made a terrific run. Wozza has to start believing now. He's got three goals so far this season – more than he's had in any season – and we're not even halfway through the campaign.
And Brown also reaped praise on the defensive unit of Adam Thompson, Cian Bolger, Luke Prosser and John White, as Blues got back to their clean sheet mentality.
“I'm delighted for Tommo coming into the side in a position he's not used to. He had problems with Franks in the first half but I didn't see Franks do to much in the second period, so as far as I'm concerned, Adam's done his job.
“They've all done well – Cian Bolger came in and did well, whilst John White was also out of position but did really well, too.”
