Michael Timlin reflects on a positive performance and result against Mansfield Town
Southend United's Michael Timlin continued in the Blues midfield as Phil Brown's side returned to winning ways with an excellent victory against Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two.
Timlin – who missed a large chunk of the early season due to an elbow injury picked up in pre-season – has now been a regular in the lineup over the last few weeks and was delighted to help Blues pick up the points at the One Call Stadium.
“I'm feeling stronger and fitter. Maybe there was a reason for me to get that injury because I've come back stronger,” Tims said.
“It's the fittest I've ever been since I've been at the Club. It's a big relief in the end. It's just good to get a win today after a disappointing last couple of weeks.
“Today's a massive result for us. We know it's not been good enough for the fans and as long as they stick with us, they'll hopefully see we're turning a corner.
“It was a disappointing October for us and hopefully this is a fresh start. We need to get back to not conceding goals and putting the ball in the back of the net at the other end.
“We felt quite comfortable today. To be fair to Mansfield, they kept battling and kept coming at us.”
And Timlin admits bringing in Jacub Sokolik – back to Southend on loan from Yeovil Town – was a big boost ahead of the game in Nottinghamshire.
“Sometimes a fresh face can galvanise the players,” he said.
“We know what Jacub can do and he knows us as well. He's a great defender and I felt he played really well today.”
