Skipper ready for his first taste of the play-offs as Blues travel to Burton Albion on Sunday
Southend United captain John White is relishing the opportunity to feature in the first play-off games of his career when Blues head to Burton Albion on Sunday.
Blues’ skipper has won automatic promotion during his career, but has never been part of a play-off campaign, and that’s something that excites the defender.
Despite a lack of experience in this type of game, White believes he’s more than ready for the battle that lies ahead.
He said: “I’ve never been involved in them before so I’m really excited about the challenge, and can’t wait for the first-leg on Sunday.
“I’ve won automatic promotion, but this play-off experience will be new to me. Quite a few of the lads have been involved though, and I’m sure that will help us get through it.
“We’re all looking forward to the games, more than anything. We’ve worked hard to get where we are. We can’t wait for Sunday to try and get where we want to be – and that’s Wembley.
“I’ve not started thinking about Wembley at all, because it is very much a case of business as usual. There has been a buzz around the place all season.
“But I suppose in the last week or so you’ll have been able to sense it more around the place. We’re on a positive run at the moment which has helped us too.”
With Blues set to take nearly their full allocation at the Pirelli Stadium, White is looking forward to playing in front of such a big away following.
He added: “The support throughout this whole season has been absolutely amazing, both at home, and especially away from home.
“The noise from the away supporters has been so good, and it has been noticeable in every game we’ve played away from home this season.
“I’m sure they will be loud and proud again on Sunday and hopefully have a big impact on us as players once again to help us kick on and get the result.”
