Defender Mark Phillips thanked Southend United supporters for their backing during his four years with the club, after it was announced he was leaving Roots Hall on Friday.
The 31-year-old enjoyed four season at Roots Hall, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year for his contribution during the 2011-12 season.
Phillips spoke to the official website to pay tribute to the supporters. He said: “I would just like to thank everyone for the support they have shown me during four great years with the club.
“Since the day I joined Southend United I have enjoyed every minute of it and will always love the club, and hope they can win promotion next season.
“I’ve loved being a part of the team, and leave with some very fond memories that will always stay with me.
“The biggest of those was of course the win against Leyton Orient to get this club to their first ever Wembley cup final.
“The scenes on the pitch that night were something special, and it is you the fans who deserved that night more than anyone.
“I’d like to wish the club the best for the future.”
