Youngster has signed a one-year professional contract at Roots Hall
Southend United Football Club is pleased to announce that youngster Ellis Brown has agreed to sign a one-year professional deal at Roots Hall.
The former Charlton Athletic youth product was brought in by Academy Manager Ricky Duncan, and impressed first-team boss Phil Brown enough to earn a deal.
He joins Ted Smith, who signed a pro deal in January, and Jason Williams, Josh Banton and Jack Bridge, who were offered professional contracts by the club.
Phil Brown said: “Ellis has come in after impressing Ricky Duncan. He then trained with the first-team a couple of times and was extremely impressive.
“He stayed with the first-team, trained with us and in training games and has given John Egan and Jakub Sokolik real problems.
“His pace is one of his strongest attributes but he also has a real technical side to his game.
“I’m pleased we’ve been able to bring him to the club after he left Charlton. He’s an exciting prospect.”
Ellis will be presented to the crowd at half-time of today's game against Burton Albion.
