Corr: The two wins can give us the edge

4 May 2014

Barry Corr on the 1-0 win against Burton Albion, and the upcoming play-offs

Barry Corr believes Southend United will be full of belief ahead of the play-offs, following the 1-0 win against Burton Albion on Saturday.

Blues will now face the Brewers over two legs for the right to play in the final at Wembley, and having beaten Gary Rowett’s side twice this season already, Corr thinks that may give Blues an advantage.

The striker, who scored the winning goal on Saturday, does admit that the two games will be completely different to the one just gone.

He said: “It’s important to go into the play-offs with the belief you can win them, and having beaten them twice I think we’ll have that.

“Of course, they won’t be thinking about that too much, but I’m sure it’ll be at the back of their minds going into the games.

“Saturday’s game was a bit flat to be honest, with both teams knowing they were in the play-off places.

“That won’t be the case in both of the games coming up. They will be a lot more up for it, but so will we. We weren’t at our best on Saturday but we still got the win.

“It also means we’re at home in the second-leg, and we’re happy with that. We wanted to finish as high as possible and that’s what we did with the win.”

Corr took his tally to 13 for the season, and he is delighted to be heading into the play-offs in excellent goalscoring form.

The header on Saturday made if four goals in four games for the striker, and he wants to keep that going.

He said: “I’m very pleased with how things are going and I think I’ve found some goalscoring form at just the right time which is nice.

“I have to thank Kevan Hurst who has set a number of my goals up this season. It was an excellent cross in from him.

“I want to now take that form into the play-offs and hopefully to come out with the win at Wembley.

“I didn’t start last time so it’d be great to get back there, play and win the game to seal promotion to League 1.”
