Southend United's Community Trust launched Community Football and Education Programme
Southend United’s Community and Educational Trust has today announced plans to start the ‘Southend United Community Football and Education Programme’ in association with Creative Sport & Leisure (CSL). CSL is wholly owned by the UK’s first Specialist College of Further Education, Prospects College of Advanced Technology.
This partnership will allow the delivery of vocational education alongside the development of football opportunities for young people in the local community.
The programme will be the first of its kind in the country, bringing together young people who can continue developing as footballers with the security of gaining an industry recognised qualification from Level 1 to Level 3.
Creative Sport & Leisure was created to promote education and lifelong learning through sport within local communities, by providing the relevant skills training for the next generation within the Active Leisure and Learning Sector.
Courses will be delivered at five different venues across South Essex, including at Roots Hall Stadium, the home of Southend United’s Community & Educational Trust and at Prospects College in Southend.
Students will study their courses and also train and play football for seven hours a week. The Football Programme will see the teams competing in the Football Conference Youth Alliance, English Colleges Football Association and the FA Youth Cup. They will also receive a host of other benefits:
- Award in the Treatment and Management of Injury in Sport
- FA Qualifications
- Discount Driving Lessons
- Tickets to Southend United fixtures
- Branded training kit and tracksuit
- Relevant college uniform and equipment
- NUS Card
- Reduced gym membership
- Sports Nutrition Workshops

- Take part in National Citizen Service (NCS)
The Southend United Community Football and Education Programme will be delivered by UEFA and industry qualified coaches and have direct links with Canvey Island Football Club and Southend Manor Football Club, with games being played at both of these club’s grounds. There will also be pathways for students to progress into both of these clubs.
Courses available at Southend United’s Roots Hall Stadium include BTEC Level 1, 2 & 3 in Sport, covering Coaching Development, Anatomy and Physiology with opportunities for work experience and progression into Higher Education.
