Dave Penney on Blues' bid to bring in a striker

Assistant boss Dave Penney confirmed Blues’ bid to bring in a striker from a League 1 club had failed.

Penney revealed the player had decided he didn’t want to drop down to League 2, despite the club’s agreeing terms.

He said: “The player decided he didn’t want to go to a club in League 2 which is frustrating.

“We tried to discuss it with him but it never really got off the ground. We had agreed the terms with the other club.

“The manager has been backed to bring someone in, and he’s identified the position of striker as an area he’d like to strengthen.

“Unfortunately a number of players have said they do not want to drop down to this division.

“With Barry suspended for three games, it now gives Freddy and Lee Barnard a chance to step up to the mark."
