Last Time Out: Bury

13 March 2014

A look at our last game against Bury...

The last time the two sides met, Southend United had to settle for a point against Bury at Gigg Lane.

After four straight defeats, it seemed as though Blues were going to get back to winning ways, but a late equaliser cost them all three points.

Ben Coker scored his first goal in the Football League to put Southend ahead as he curled home a delightful free-kick.

The free-kick came midway through the first half, and it should have been two-nil moments later, but Freddy Eastwood couldn’t turn home Anthony Straker’s cross.

Kevan Hurst volley over from another Straker cross before the hosts though they’d equalised.

Nathan Cameron headed home, but a free-kick had been awarded for a foul on Coker.

Coker was then in the action again in the 88th minute, as he was sent off for a second bookable offence.

And the hosts too full advantage with Anton Forrrester heading past Bentley from a free-kick.

Blues: Bentley; White, Prosser, Phillips, Coker; Hurst (Timlin 81), Leonard, Atkinson, Straker; Eastwood (Woodrow 66), Corr.

Subs not used: Smith, Reid, Payne, Thompson, Clifford.

Goals: Coker (23)

Attendance: 2,895 (264 away fans)
