4 March 2014

Lee Barnard, Bedsente Gomis and Jack Payne score in 3-0 win against Colchester United

Southend United beat Colchester United 3-0 in a development friendly this afternoon.

Jack Payne got his 12th goal in 12 development games, with Lee Barnard and Bedsente Gomis also on the scoresheet.

Freddy Eastwood and Conor Clifford also got some minutes under their belts in the game against the U’s.

Graham Coughlan said: “The lads all worked hard and it was a very good performance from them.

“We’ve said all along that hard work will get you that bit of luck, and it was a really hard working display.

“We finished the game with five under-16’s and six under-18 players on the pitch and they saw the game out well.

“It was good for Lee Barnard to get a goal, that’ll give him a nice confidence boost.

“He’s getting his fitness back step by step and looked sharp out there against Colchester.”
