Eastwood: These are good times for Blues

Freddy Eastwood believes the club is on the up following Saturday's win against Torquay United

Freddy Eastwood believes that the good times are here for Southend United following his winning goal against Torquay United.

The 30-year-old moved up to fifth in the club’s all time scorer’s charts with his clinical finish against the Gulls.

And after the game he insisted that Blues are getting into the perfect position to win promotion to League 1 via the play-offs.

He said: “We’ve got the players coming back now and everyone seems to be fit at just the right time.

“These are good times for Southend United following these two wins and we’ve now got to kick on from here.

“We’re building from a very solid defence. They’ve been brilliant defensively in recent weeks.

“Before that silly errors were costing us but now we don’t look like conceding any goals.

“We look solid throughout the team and that gives us a lot of confidence when we get forward and attack.”

Freddy himself is feeling fit and healthy ahead of the final six (or hopefully nine) games of the campaign.

He said: “It’s a good time to be fit and healthy because there’s some big important games coming up.

“They’re the sort of games we all want to be involved in and hopefully I can play my part.

“I’m feeling fit, but obviously more game time will make me fitter. I’ve just got to keep training hard and taking my chance.”

The striker’s experience was needed on Saturday as he smashed home the winner from inside the area.

With a youthful exuberance defensively, Freddy says Blues have got the right mix across the pitch.

He added: “In big games, you need that experience to help the younger players get through it.

“But you also need the young lads in these sorts of matches to bring that spark.

“We’ve got a really good mix of experience and youth here which I’m sure will help us during the final run in.”
