Ben Coker says Blues must cut out the small errors if they are to get back to winning ways
Defender Ben Coker says the little errors must stop, if Blues are to end this run without a win at Scunthorpe United tomorrow.
Coker made an error to hand the Iron the three points at Roots Hall earlier this season, and says it’s moments like that that Blues need to cut out to stop this run.
The defender says he still remembers that moment back in September, and is determined to make up for that at Glanford Park on Tuesday night.
“I still remember that game and my mistake, but I think I’ve been pretty consistent since then,” Coker said.
“Obviously moments like that do hang with you, but I won’t be thinking about that tomorrow, I’ll just be hoping to help the team back to winning ways.
“Those are the sort of small errors we can’t afford to have at the moment because they are costing us.
“Sometimes if you make a small error, a teammate will be there to help out and cover, but it doesn’t seem to be going that way at the moment.
“The error on Saturday allowed Morecambe back into the game and we never really recovered, which can’t happen on Tuesday.”
Up until that goal, Coker felt Blues had been starting to re-discover their form in the last few games, but says they must produce for 90 minutes against the Iron on Tuesday.
With Blues’ run now ten without a win, and Scunthopre unbeaten in 19, the defender knows it’s two sides in completely different form.
He said: “They are doing really well at the moment so it’s up to us to go there and get back to playing how we know we can.
“It’s going to be a tough game, and we’ll need to be at our best for the full 90 minutes, we can’t just perform for a half as we did against Morecambe and Northampton.
“In the last few games there had been signs, I felt, that we were getting back to playing some good football.
“But the results still haven’t been going our way. It doesn’t matter how it comes about, but we’ve got to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
“We’ll continue working hard. It’s not through a lack of effort, but we’ve all got to be at our best on Tuesday night.”
