Report: Bristol Rovers 0-0 Blues
Southend United were held to a third consecutive draw, as it finished 0-0 against Bristol Rovers on Friday night at the Memorial Stadium.
Played in blustery conditions, neither side were able to stamp their authority on an even game, that ended with a share of the spoils.
Phil Brown made three changes as Michael Timlin, Will Atkinson and Lee Barnard all started, with new loan signing Jamar Loza on the bench.
John White produced the first bit of quality to beat his man and drill low across the box. Unfortunately for Blues, no-one could turn the ball home and Rovers were able to clear.
Neither side were able to get any real fluidity in their play, and the next real chance of the game came just after the half-hour.
A Rovers corner was flicked on and bounced off Ryan Leonard towards goal, but Dan Bentley produced a smart reaction save.
Blues began the second-half on the front foot, and after Barnard had inadvertently blocked Jakub Sokolik’s shot, Steve Mildenhall had to tip Timlin’s drive around the post.
Loza came on for his debut with 20 minutes remaining, as he replaced Freddy Eastwood.
With 15-minutes remaining, Blues created their best opening as Leonard crossed for Barnard, but he could only knee the ball towards goal and Mildenhall held comfortably.
Rovers then created their best chance, as John-Joe O’Toole found space in the area, but his header was straight at Bentley.
Debut-boy Loza did get his chance with five minutes remaining, but he could only head Barnard’s cross down into the ground and it bounced over.
That was to be the final chance of the game, as Blues picked up a third draw in a row.
