Atkinson: Loza's home debut was special

Will Atkinson on Jamar Loza's stunning home debut

Will Atkinson says he can’t remember a better home debut than Jamar Loza’s for Blues in the 3-0 win against Oxford United on Monday night.

Loza played a big part in the first two goals, winning the penalty for the second, before scoring a stunning, and well deserved, solo goal late on.

Atkinson, who also was on the scoresheet, was impressed with the young striker’s display.

He said: “It was a really good performance from Jamar. I’ve not seen many better home debuts than that during my time in football.

“He’s a lovely lad who has come in, looked sharp against Bristol Rovers off the bench and then produced against Oxford.

“He did really well and hopefully he can continue that on Saturday.

“I think we’ve missed that bit of pace since Cauley Woodrow went back, it gives us the option to put it in behind and for Jamar to chase.

“He’s shown with his performance he can cause a lot of problems, and if Monday’s performance is anything to go by, things are looking good.”

Blues’ boss Phil Brown was also full of praise for the young striker on loan from Norwich City.

He said: “Being a home debut, there was maybe a little bit more pressure on him, but he dealt with it fantastically.

“He’s bright, lively and wants to learn, and he’s got the platform to show what he can do.

“Without a shadow of a doubt he deserved a goal, but then a number of players possibly deserved one too.

“He’s got that pace that frightens defenders and he’s made a very good impression early on.”
