Blues' squad to head for the sun...
Southend United’s first-team squad will be heading for sunny Spain on Sunday as they step up their pre-season preparations.
Phil Brown and his squad will head for Spain for five days to work on their fitness ahead of the new campaign.
The squad will be put through their paces in the heat, but unlike the previous two seasons, will not be playing a game out in Madrid.
Brown said: “We’re doing it slightly different this year in the fact we’re going out there even before a ball has been kicked in a friendly.
“It is a great opportunity to get some quality training and preparation done in the sun of Spain, but we won’t be playing a game out there.
“The players will have a week here at Boots & Laces before we head out there, to get them in the best condition possible for the season.
“Last year’s pre-season trip was a big success and I hope this will be the same, not only for their fitness, but for the bonding of the squad.
“We’ve added Myles Weston so far and will hope to bring more in, but the core is here already from last season, so it’ll be great to get away and get in some hard work.”
