News: A chance to say goodbye to Freddy Eastwood

13 June 2014

Freddy to play some part in friendly against Ipswich Town on 29th July

Southend United fans will have the chance to say goodbye to club legend Freddy Eastwood.

The striker, who left the club at the end of last season, will be given a Roots Hall send off at our friendly against Ipswich Town on Tuesday 29th July, kick-off 7:45pm.

Freddy will play some part in the game against Mick McCarthy’s side – the manager who took the striker away from Roots Hall during his first spell with the club.

Blues’ boss Phil Brown felt the striker deserved a proper send-off, and is hopeful fans will turn out in force to wave goodbye to a real legend of Southend United.

Brown said: “Freddy is part of this club’s history, and he never really had the chance to say goodbye, so we looked at what we could do to give the fans a chance to say thank you.

“Hopefully Roots Hall will be as full as possible to give Freddy the send off he deserves, because he is truly a Roots Hall legend.”

Ticket details for the game will be announced shortly.
