How have Blues got on in their previous five opening day games...

We take a look back at Southend United’s five previous opening day games ahead of the fixtures for 2014-15 being released on Wednesday.

Southend United 2-2 Huddersfield Town – 2009-10

Southend United’s 2009/10 season kicked off with a home game against Huddersfield Town.

Lee Barnard and Franck Moussa gave Blues a 2-0 lead with 56 minutes on the clock, but Anthony Pilkington set up a frantic finale with his 71st minute strike.

Dangerman Jordan Rhodes got his season off and running with a 79th minute goal to hand The Terriers a point, despite Michael Collins’ late sending off.

Southend United: Mildenhall; White, Heath, Barrett, Francis, McCormack, Moussa, Grant, Barnard, Christophe, Laurent.

Southend United 1-1 Stockport County – 2010-11

Blair Sturrock came off the bench to rescue Southend United a point in their opening game of the 2010-11 season.

George Donnelly had given Stockport County an 83rd minute lead, but Sturrock pounced in the 90th minute, having come off the bench to earn Blues a point.

Southend United 1-0 Hereford United – 2011-12

Southend United began their 2011-12 season with a 1-0 win against Hereford United.

The only goal of the game came from Bilel Mohsni who scored in the 14th minute to hand Blues all three points.

Southend United 0-1 Accrington Stanley – 2012-13

Having lost to Peterborough United in the Capital One Cup the midweek before the league season got underway, Blues’ campaign got off to a tough start.

Accrington Stanley left Roots Hall with all three points, as Blues were unable to get anything from their opening league game.

Karl Sheppard’s goal just after the hour mark was the difference between the two sides.

Southend: Belford; Clohessy, Phillips, Leonard, Barker, Ferdinand, Prosser, Hall, Timlin, Tomlin, Assombalonga

Southend United 1-0 Plymouth Argyle – 2013-14

Southend United made a winning start to the previous campaign, as Barry Corr’s goal proved the difference between the two sides.

Corr’s goal early in the game, from a Marc Laird pass, was the only goal of a tight affair to kick off the 2013-14 campaign.

Southend: Bentley; White, Phillips, Straker, Coker, Leonard, Atkinson, Prosser, Laird, Eastwood, Corr
