Defender on why he's enjoyed a very different summer to what he had last season...
Ben Coker has experienced a very different summer this time around, but says he can’t wait to get back into training ahead of the 2014-15 Sky Bet League 2 campaign.
This time last year, Coker was preparing himself for a trial at Roots Hall, and had been working tirelessly throughout the summer to get himself in the best condition possible.
After an impressive season at Roots Hall, Coker has been able to enjoy a bit of time of this time around, but is back in training now preparing for pre-season.
He said: “Last year I didn’t really have any summer at all. I went away for a week but the rest of the time I was working with a personal trainer to get myself in the best condition possible.
“I was working as hard as I could to make sure I would give it everything on trial. Thankfully it paid off and I signed a deal with the club.
“Last season was a really positive one for me, but I was pretty tired come the end of the campaign. It was nice to be able to get away and have some time off.
“But I’ve been back training for a week or so now and working with someone close to home with a couple of the lads to prepare for pre-season.”
After a positive pre-season last year for Blues, they began the league campaign with three straight wins. Coker is hoping for more of the same this time around.
“It was a really good pre-season last time around and we got good workouts against the likes of QPR, West Ham and Real Madrid,” he added.
“I’m sure we’ll all be raring to go the day we get back for pre-season, and then we’ll all be looking forward to the first game of the season.
“It’s quite a tough start for us with lots of travelling, but they should be good games, and the pitches are always decent in the early months of the season.”
